The original JoJo’s opened on Waimea’s main road in 1992, the year Hurricane ʻIniki hit, and still flies the original sign. Syrups are made in-house with pure cane sugar and Hawaiian-made flavorings, and the house cream toppings are the move.
Why we love it
It’s the classic West Side reward, and JoJo’s says all its profits fund free camps for Hawaiian youth.
What to expect
Look for the Original JoJo’s sign on the main road through Waimea town. This is old-style Hawaiian shave ice: finely shaved ice soaked in house-made, cane-sugar syrups, finished with one of JoJo’s own cream toppings. Add macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom, or try the JoJo’s Special (with mac nut ice cream and haupia) or the Coconut Dream with a haupia drizzle. It’s a quick, casual stop that works as a cool-down after a hot West Side beach or a Port Allen boat tour.
