A small state wayside on the Hāna Highway with a viewpoint of Keʻanae Valley and the Koʻolau Gap in Haleakalā’s rim. On the ocean side, you look down on Wailua Village and its taro patches.
Why we love it
It’s a free, official stop that gives you both the mountain and the village view in a few steps from the car.
Current conditions: DLNR’s Oct. 19, 2026 notice says all Maui state parks have reopened after the Hurricane Nolo closures except Polipoli.
What to expect
This is a quick roadside stop just past Keʻanae, on 1.5 acres run by Hawaiʻi State Parks. Look inland up Keʻanae Valley toward the Koʻolau Gap, where the rim of Haleakalā breaks open, then toward the sea for Wailua Village, its church and taro patches. Clouds often sit in the gap, so the view changes minute to minute. There are no listed facilities, so plan restroom breaks elsewhere. Ten to fifteen minutes is enough. Combine it with the Keʻanae Peninsula stop just before it.
